According to a survey, marijuana users exercise more than five times as often.

Marijuana consumers are more than three times more likely to regularly exercise than drink alcohol—and they’re nearly five times more likely to routinely work out than eat fast food—according to another stereotype-defying survey.

The poll from the cannabis telehealth platform NuggMD looked at the habits of cannabis users, who were asked about the frequency they engage in seven different activities—from alcohol consumption to movie theater attendance.

The study found that cannabis users exercised more frequently than alcohol drinkers (6.1% daily, and 11.3% multiple times a week).

The survey also found that marijuana consumers were 4.8 times as likely to exercise regularly than to consume fast food (1,5 percent per day and 11,5 percent weekly).

Andrew Graham, NuggMD’s head of communication, said to MEDCAN24 that „this finding shows how cannabis users today defy prohibitionist stereotypes of lazy layabouts who munch Doritos before consuming alcohol and getting their fix.”

Data shows cannabis consumers report several healthy habits. He said that when compared to federal data about exercise and fast-food consumption, the results of our survey show cannabis consumers to be more inclined to exercise than other Americans and to consume less fast-food. Previous polling shows that cannabis is a good substitute for alcohol, and the results of this survey are similar.

For millions of Americans with a wellness focus, cannabis is part of their daily routine. Graham: „It’s mind-blowing to see how far the prohibitionists are wrong about almost everything.”

Other studies also found that marijuana users were exercising at or above average levels, contrary to the stereotype that it makes people lazy. The data presented here is the most recent to confirm the findings.

The new survey also revealed that only a small number of marijuana users use delivery services frequently. Only 3.3 percent said they ordered food daily, and another 8.3 percent reported that they used such services more than once a week.

69,5 percent of the respondents drink coffee on a regular basis. Only 4.5 per cent of respondents said that they frequently visit the cinema. And 64.8% said they take nutritional supplementation regularly.

NuggMD conducted interviews with 603 cannabis users, and the margin of error was +/-4 percentage points.

In addition, a recent study showed that marijuana can increase the enjoyment of exercise and enhance „runner’s high.”

Another study published in 2023 surveyed 49 runners and found that participants experienced „less negative affect, greater feelings of positive affect, tranquility, enjoyment, and dissociation, and more runner’s high symptoms during their cannabis (vs. non-cannabis) runs.” The researchers found that marijuana users ran 31 seconds slower than non-users per mile.

The positive effects of cannabis that the runners reported is consistent with the findings of a 2019 study, which found that people who use marijuana to elevate their workout tend to get a healthier amount of exercise.

Older people who consume cannabis are also more likely to engage in physical activity, according to another study that was published in 2020.

Similarly, in another stereotype-busting study that was published in 2021, researchers found that frequent marijuana consumers are actually more likely to be physically active compared to their non-using counterparts.
