It has come to light after President Donald Trump and his administration reached an agreement regarding Fogel’s possession of medical marihuana in Russia that had been legally obtained as part of being registered as a patient at Pensylvania Hospice Care. This news item made headlines worldwide as people learned of Fogel’s release for possessing medicinal cannabis there, obtained legally as an eligible hospice patient from Pennsylwania Hospice Care.
Before Fogela was officially arrested by the Department of State last year, numerous efforts had been undertaken to modify his diplomatic status; one such attempt included sending an open letter addressed to Biden from several members of Congress in September that highlighted Fogela’s access to marijuana was „inevitable and irremediable”.
After the historic and global exchange of visas last fall – in which several Americans were released – two law makers sent a letter to current Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressing their „deepest fears” concerning Fogela’s continued deportation.
Authorities noted Fogel is comparable to WNBA player Brittney Griner who served her sentence at a Russian jail for possessing Indian coconut oil that she legally obtained as part of medical cannabis in Arizona before she was freed under an early exchange deal negotiated by Biden Administration.
